There is a tasting fee at the Arroyo Road location (by state law), but it is also often less crowded. Sometimes it is closed for special events, so visitors should call ahead. It’s a great site for weddings, assuming you meet their (circa 2000) minimum of 100 guests and $8,000.
Besides the Wente “champagne” cellar (now rented out to Korbel, I believe), there are a couple other historical sites nearby. On the ridge above the property is Cresta Blanca, an exposed bluff of white rock created suddenly by a rockslide. It was used as the name for one of the original wineries in the area. The only surviving building from that winery is across the street and managed by the Livermore parks department. Despite its historical importance, there is almost nothing left inside, and there is no access to the public.

A little-known factoid…back when we had the mill and trucking business, we hauled grapes for Wente from the Arroyo Seco area of Monterey County to their Tesla Rd. facility!
